Who We Are
The International Medical Internship of Houston (IMIH) is a non-profit organization. The program was founded by Dr. Edward C. Murphy, a distinguished neurosurgeon in collaboration with Dr. Bogar Ventura, with the mission of fostering academic and clinical excellence among medical students worldwide. With decades of combined experience in medicine and education, Dr. Murphy and Dr. Ventura envisioned a program that not only enhances medical knowledge but also prepares students for a future in the U.S. healthcare system.
IMIH provides international and U.S. medical students with the opportunity to rotate in various specialties—including neurosurgery, general surgery, OBGYN, internal medicine, and pediatrics—under the guidance of experienced physicians. Through immersive clinical exposure, surgical observation, research opportunities, and mentorship, our program is designed to strengthen students’ understanding of patient care, evidence-based practice, and the dynamics of the American medical system.
Beyond academics, IMIH cultivates cultural exchange and professional growth, offering a supportive environment for students preparing to take the USMLE Steps and pursue residency training in the United States.
At IMIH, we are committed to shaping the next generation of global physicians—one rotation at a time.

Program Director – International Medical Internship, Houston
"Medicine is not just a career. It’s a way of life. A commitment to others — even when no one is watching."
To all young doctors, students, interns, and dreamers setting foot in a hospital for the first time:
Welcome.
Medicine is a language — learned not only through textbooks and sleepless nights, but through quiet tears in hospital hallways, through the grateful glance of a patient who cannot speak, through the quick decisions that shape destinies.
It is not an easy profession — nor should it be.
Because what we hold in our hands is nothing less than human life.
And to care for another’s life, we must first learn to examine our own. With honesty. With humility. With a constant desire to grow.
I have seen nervous young interns walk into their first shifts unsure of themselves, only to lead teams months later with clarity, compassion, and strength. I’ve seen them comfort families, make tough calls, and heal more with their presence than with their prescriptions.
The path is long, and yes, often unfair.
But it is also deeply beautiful — because within the chaos, you will find purpose. And in the exhaustion, meaning.
To those who keep going when no one is watching, who ask questions even when they’re afraid to seem unsure, who study when their body begs for rest — you are the ones who will transform medicine for the better.
Keep going.
With discipline, with heart, and with the knowledge that no effort in medicine is ever wasted.
It is an honor to walk this path with you.
With respect and admiration,
Dr. Edward C Murphy.
